Root code execution via traversed plugin path
Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026
Path traversal in SUSE libzypp 17.38.8 allows local users to execute host binaries with root privileges through a crafted plugin path. PluginScript chroots plugins to repoManagerRoot, but a root-directory target is a no-op, so a traversed path resolves to host binaries. Triggering plugin loading requires user interaction; successful exploitation runs the selected host binary as root and can read or alter system data or interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
