Stored XSS via unescaped heatmap tick labels
Published May 26, 2026 · Updated May 26, 2026
Stored XSS in Prometheus 2.49.0 through 3.5.2 and 3.6.0-rc.0 through 3.11.2 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript via crafted metrics. The legacy UI heatmap tickFormatter inserts each histogram bucket's le label into an HTML axis tick without escaping it. Exploitation requires old-ui, attacker-controlled metric ingestion, and a user viewing the poisoned heatmap; the script can read metrics or invoke enabled same-origin APIs.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
