Host-root access via unchecked Swarm service requests
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Authorization bypass in affected Portainer Community Edition releases allows remote authenticated users to gain host-root access through Swarm APIs. The service-create parser omits capabilities, sysctls, and confinement fields, while service update performs no EndpointSecuritySettings body inspection before forwarding requests. Exploitation requires a non-admin account with access to a Docker Swarm endpoint and configured restrictions; crafted services can mount the host and run with root-equivalent privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
