CVE-2026-44691

Command execution via untrusted workspace tasks

Published Jun 18, 2026 · Updated Jun 18, 2026

Command execution in Eclipse Foundation Eclipse Theia before 1.69.0 allows attackers to run workspace tasks with the user's privileges. The task system executes shell commands from .theia/tasks.json or .vscode/tasks.json without checking whether the opened workspace is trusted. Opening a crafted repository and running or auto-running its task is sufficient; a message sent to AI chat triggers it automatically when workspace settings disable tool confirmation.
