CVE-2026-44604Public exploit

Command execution via unescaped archive root name

Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026

Command injection in RPM 6.0.1 allows attackers to execute commands when a crafted single-root archive is extracted with rpmuncompress -x -C. The doUntar() path inserts the root name returned by singleRoot() into a single-quoted popen() shell command without escaping embedded quotes. A user or build workflow must process a ZIP, 7z, or GEM archive through the -x -C path; commands run with the extraction user's privileges.
