Account compromise via unthrottled authentication requests
Published Jul 16, 2026 · Updated Jul 16, 2026
Improper restriction of authentication attempts in Yamcs before 5.12.7 allows remote attackers to brute-force passwords via POST /auth/token. AuthHandler passes every submitted credential to the security store without rate limiting, account lockout, or failed-attempt throttling. No authentication is required to sustain unlimited guesses, while account access still depends on finding valid credentials.
