Stored XSS via pre-sanitized Markdown rendering
Published May 15, 2026 · Updated May 15, 2026
Stored XSS in Open WebUI before 0.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in a pending user's browser via overlay content. AccountPending.svelte sanitizes raw Markdown before marked.parse(), which then creates an unsanitized JavaScript link rendered by Svelte. Administrator access is required to save the content, and a pending user must view the overlay and activate the crafted link, enabling session-data theft or phishing.
