Pending-account API access via JWT-only authorization
Published May 15, 2026 · Updated May 15, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Open WebUI before 0.1.124 allows remote attackers with pending accounts to access authenticated APIs. The get_current_user dependency accepts any valid JWT without checking the stored role, and regular-user endpoints rely on it instead of get_verified_user. When sign-ups are enabled and the default role is pending, a new registrant can query the LLM and invoke every regular-user API endpoint before administrator approval.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
