Authenticated model overwrite via unchecked import merge
Published May 15, 2026 · Updated May 15, 2026
Missing authorization in Open WebUI before 0.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite any model through the import API. The import_models handler merges attacker-controlled fields over an existing database record, then updates it without checking ownership or filtering access grants. Exploitation requires workspace.models_import permission and knowledge of a target model ID; it permits replacement of prompts, routing, and access grants.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
