Session takeover via unsanitized Excel preview HTML
Published May 15, 2026 · Updated May 15, 2026
Stored XSS in Open WebUI before 0.8.0 allows remote authenticated users to take over viewer sessions via crafted XLSX files. FileItemModal.svelte passes worksheet data through sheet_to_html and inserts the resulting attacker-controlled HTML into the DOM with Svelte's unsanitized @html directive. Exploitation requires a viewer to open the attachment and select its preview; executed script can read the viewer's locally stored session token.
