CVE-2026-44462Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary command execution via prompt-style expansion

Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026

Command execution in Zed before 0.229.0 allows remote attackers to run arbitrary commands through Bash prompt-style expansion. The terminal permission checker matches only the initial echo token and does not evaluate nested ${var@P} expansion built through chained assignments. Exploitation requires attacker-influenced AI agent tool calls on Linux and an allowlist rule that trusts an initial command prefix; default macOS Bash rejects the syntax.
