Remote command execution via unquoted environment keys
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
OS command injection in Zed before 0.227.1 allows attackers to execute shell commands on a remote host through a crafted project setting. The SSH and WSL command builders quote environment values but insert each key directly into an exec env shell string, allowing command substitution. Exploitation requires attacker control of a project terminal environment key and user interaction to open a terminal in an SSH or WSL remote project.
