Unauthenticated SMF crash via fatal pool validation
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Denial of service in free5GC before 4.2.2 allows remote attackers to crash the SMF via an unauthenticated UPI topology update. The POST /upi/v1/upNodesLinks handler passes attacker-controlled pool data into UpNodesFromConfiguration(), where overlap validation calls logger.InitLog.Fatalf and exits the process. Network access to the SMF SBI is sufficient; one overlapping UE pool request drops all SMF SBI services until restart.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
