File disclosure via backslash path traversal
Published May 12, 2026 · Updated May 12, 2026
Path traversal in SQLAlchemy Mako before 1.3.12 allows remote attackers to read files outside template directories on Windows. TemplateLookup.get_template() normalizes URIs with posixpath, which treats backslashes as literals, while Windows file access treats them as separators; Template.init then accepts the resulting traversal. An application must pass attacker-controlled template names or include paths, exposing readable local files outside the configured directory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
