Stored XSS via unescaped Markdown image attributes
Published May 7, 2026 · Updated May 7, 2026
Stored XSS in Weblate before 5.17.1 allows remote authenticated users to inject HTML attributes through crafted Markdown content. The render_image method passed approved image tokens to Mistletoe without context-escaping the URL, alt text, or title, allowing quotes to become event-handler attributes in generated img markup. Low-privileged content-writing access is required, and injected browser code is constrained by Weblate’s strict Content Security Policy.
