CVE-2026-44244Public exploit

Code execution via newline-injected hooksPath configuration

Published May 7, 2026 · Updated May 7, 2026

Code injection in GitPython before 3.1.49 allows local users to execute code through newline-bearing Git configuration values. GitConfigParser.set_value() passes embedded newlines to configparser, and _write() turns them into indented lines that Git accepts as a live [core] stanza setting core.hooksPath. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled data to set_value() and then perform a Git operation that invokes hooks.
