CVE-2026-44106

Root code execution via symbolic-link file move

Published Jul 30, 2026 · Updated Jul 30, 2026

Local privilege escalation in Phoenix Contact CHARX SEC-3xxx firmware before 1.9.1 allows local users to execute code as root. The root-run user-applications script follows an attacker-created symbolic link while moving files, allowing an arbitrary file move with root privileges. Low-privileged code execution on the controller is required; successful exploitation permits root code execution and full system compromise.
