Service interruption via unbounded charset reallocations
Published May 21, 2026 · Updated May 21, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Netatalk 2.0.0 through 4.4.2 allows remote authenticated users to cause an AFP service interrupt via crafted strings. The charset conversion retry loop repeatedly doubles its destination buffer without an allocation ceiling or integer-overflow guard. Reachability requires an authenticated AFP session, and ordinary AFP path and string limits make sustained memory exhaustion unlikely.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
