CVE-2026-44066Network attack vector

Heap disclosure and crashes via unbounded RPC unmarshalling

Published May 21, 2026 · Updated May 21, 2026

Out-of-bounds reads in Netatalk 3.1.0 through 4.4.2 allow remote authenticated users to expose heap data or crash afpd. The Spotlight RPC unmarshaller fails to receive or track the request buffer length and inconsistently enforces boundaries while parsing client-controlled structure metadata. The path is reachable only when nondefault Spotlight indexing is enabled; exploitation can disclose adjacent heap data, crash an afpd child, or exhaust resources, with no evidence of code execution.
