CVE-2026-44065

Printing service interruption via papd off-by-two write

Published May 21, 2026 · Updated May 21, 2026

Off-by-two write in papd in Netatalk 2.0.0 through 4.4.2 allows attackers to interrupt printing via crafted AppleTalk print data. The lp_write() foomatic translation path writes one byte and then two additional bytes beyond its temporary buffer when processing a narrow translated-input pattern. Reachability requires papd, host-kernel AppleTalk support, an active printer definition with the fo translation flag, and adjacent-network access; the bounded consequences are a papd crash or limited data modification.
