Arbitrary-user impersonation via admin password fallback
Published May 21, 2026 · Updated May 21, 2026
Authentication bypass in Netatalk 2.2.2 through 4.4.2 allows remote authenticated users to assume any local user's identity over AFP. After a normal login fails, afpd retries the configured admin auth user and password but creates the session for the originally requested username. The option is disabled by default, and exploitation requires the administrative password; a successful login receives the target user's AFP access.
