CVE-2026-44056Network attack vector

Authenticated service crash via unchecked metadata append

Published May 21, 2026 · Updated May 21, 2026

Stack-based buffer overflow in desktop.c in Netatalk 1.3 through 4.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to crash the AFP service. Desktop metadata processing appends an entry name to a small stack buffer without checking the remaining capacity. The user must control affected metadata and trigger ownership or mode updates; limited data disclosure or modification is also reported.
