Host code execution via leaked proxy handler
Published May 13, 2026 · Updated May 13, 2026
Code injection in Patrik Simek vm2 before 3.11.0 allows attackers to escape the sandbox via crafted JavaScript and execute host code. The util.inspect path exposes BaseHandler, whose getPrototypeOf trap accepts a forged target and walks host prototypes until the host Function constructor becomes reachable. Any application that evaluates attacker-controlled code in the affected sandbox exposes the embedding Node.js process to arbitrary command execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
