Code execution via traversed widget module path
Published May 8, 2026 · Updated May 8, 2026
Path traversal in electerm before 3.7.16 allows attackers with renderer JavaScript execution to run local code through a widget identifier. runWidget in src/app/widgets/load-widget.js concatenates that identifier into a module filename and passes the joined path to require without validation, allowing ../ segments to select any local JavaScript file. Reachability requires prior JavaScript execution in the renderer, such as through a malicious plugin or webview script, and the loaded file runs with the electerm process privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
