System freeze via incompatible drive power management
Published May 13, 2026 · Updated May 13, 2026
ATA power-management handling in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to cause system freezes with ST1000DM010-2EP102 drives. The libata-core quirk table omits ATA_QUIRK_NOLPM for this Seagate model, so the ATA layer enables link power management despite the drive's incompatibility. Exposure requires Linux running an affected kernel with that drive and LPM active; the documented consequence is an intermittent full-system freeze.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
