CVE-2026-43477

System hang via premature VRR register writes

Published May 13, 2026 · Updated May 13, 2026

Denial of service in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to hang ICL systems after failed external-display link training. The i915 VRR path writes TRANS_VRR_VMAX and TRANS_VRR_FLIPLINE before enabling TRANS_DDI_FUNC_CTL, violating the required hardware register sequence. Reachability requires ICL graphics, an external display through a dock, and failed Type-C link training; the reported consequence is a machine-check hang, while TGL was not reproducible.
