Service interruption via leaked USB device references
Published May 8, 2026 · Updated May 8, 2026
A device-reference leak in the Linux kernel MCTP USB driver allows local users to exhaust memory through repeated failed device probes. The probe path acquires an extra reference to the parent USB device but does not release it when driver binding fails. Exploitation requires local access able to trigger MCTP USB probe failures; accumulated references can interrupt service without disclosing or altering data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
