CVE-2026-43279

Local system crash via USB-audio buffer overflow

Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux Kernel ALSA USB audio allows local users to crash the system through mismatched capture and playback streams. The prepare_silent_urb() path copies received implicit-feedback packet data without checking that it fits the playback URB transfer buffer. Local low-privileged access and an implicit-feedback USB audio setup with differing capture and playback packet sizes are required; the resulting kernel Oops interrupts the host.
