Local system crash via uninitialized ring-buffer pointer
Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026
NULL-pointer dereference in Linux kernel 6.12 through 6.18.15 and 6.19 through 6.19.5 allows local users to crash the system. In rb_meta_validate_events(), head_page remains uninitialized before rb_validate_buffer, and the invalid-path cleanup loop dereferences it after reader-page validation fails. A low-privileged local user must induce that failure; the documented consequence is availability loss, not data exposure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
