Local kernel crash via missing platform driver data
Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026
Denial of service in the fsl-imx8mq-usb PHY driver in Linux Kernel allows local users to crash the kernel during device removal. The probe path omits platform_set_drvdata(), so the remove callback retrieves missing driver state and dereferences it while tearing down the PHY. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a system with this USB PHY driver bound; the published impact is a kernel crash without confidentiality or integrity loss.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
