CVE-2026-43207

Kernel memory corruption via dangling V4L2 registration

Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux Kernel mtk-mdp driver allows local users with CAP_SYS_MODULE to corrupt kernel memory during module loading. When vpu_get_plat_device() fails after mem2mem registration, mtk_mdp_probe() returns without unregistering the device, leaving a V4L2 path that accesses freed or reused kernel structures. Reachability requires root or CAP_SYS_MODULE, the MediaTek MDP module, and unavailable VPU hardware; the hardware failure is outside attacker control.
