Kernel crash via ignored force-feedback initialization errors
Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the hid-pl driver in Linux Kernel allows local users to crash the kernel through force feedback. The pl_probe function discards an error returned by plff_init, allowing probe completion without valid force-feedback state before the first effect follows a NULL pointer. A low-privilege local user must access force feedback through a matching PantherLord or GreenAsia device; the bounded impact is a kernel crash.
