CVE-2026-43127

Local service interruption via ntfs3 lock inversion

Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026

Improper locking in Linux Kernel ntfs3 allows local users to hang the system by triggering concurrent MFT operations. The run_unpack_ex path holds wnd->rw_lock and then blocks on ni->file.run_lock inside ntfs_refresh_zone, reversing the order used by ntfs_extend_mft and creating an AB-BA deadlock. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and concurrent NTFS3 MFT activity; the established consequence is a system hang, not data disclosure or modification.
