CVE-2026-43112Network attack vector

Kernel memory disclosure and crash via path sanitization

Published May 6, 2026 · Updated Sep 1, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel SMB client allows attackers to disclose kernel memory or crash the system via crafted paths. After stripping leading delimiters, cifs_sanitize_prepath dereferences cursor2 - 1 even when an empty or delimiter-only prepath leaves cursor2 at the buffer start. The vulnerable CIFS mount path requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN in the initial user namespace, and exploitation can expose adjacent kernel data or trigger a system crash.
