Kernel panic via undersized XFRM aevent reply
Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026
Incorrect buffer-size calculation in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to trigger a kernel panic via XFRM netlink. xfrm_aevent_msgsize() omits space for XFRMA_IF_ID, so build_aevent() returns -EMSGSIZE and xfrm_get_ae() passes that error to BUG_ON(). The path requires local low-privileged access and an XFRM state with if_id set; exploitation crashes the host without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
