CVE-2026-43053

Filesystem shutdown via stale attribute-tree pointers

Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026

Race condition in Linux Kernel XFS allows local users to trigger a metadata-verification shutdown during crash recovery. xfs_attr3_node_inactive() cancels child blocks without atomically removing their parent entries, leaving recovery able to follow stale pointers. Reachability requires node-format extended attributes, an interrupted inactivation transaction, and a subsequent mount; the affected filesystem becomes unavailable.
