Authenticated post takeover via unchecked review update
Published May 12, 2026 · Updated May 12, 2026
Missing authorization in VideoWhisper Rate Star Review Vote 1.6.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to overwrite WordPress posts. The vwrsr_review() AJAX handler accepts a user-controlled rating_id as the target post ID and passes supplied fields to wp_update_post() and update_post_meta() without a capability check or nonce validation. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to replace arbitrary post or page content, authorship, type, status, and metadata.
