CVE-2026-42979

Local privilege escalation via notification race condition

Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026

Race condition in Windows Push Notifications across affected Windows releases allows local users to elevate privileges. Microsoft identifies improper synchronization of a shared notification resource and a resulting use-after-free but does not disclose the affected code path or raced operations. A low-privileged local account and successful timing of the complex race are required; exploitation crosses a security boundary with total technical impact.
