Super Administrator escalation via self-editable access field
Published May 11, 2026 · Updated May 11, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Grav API Plugin before 1.0.0-beta.15 allows remote authenticated users to become Super Administrators. UsersController::update accepts self-profile PATCH requests with only api.access, then copies the unprotected access field into the user's permission object. A basic API account is sufficient to grant admin.super and api.super, enabling content or configuration changes and server-side code execution through administrator features.
