Catalog AXFR failure via unescaped group quotes
Published May 21, 2026 · Updated May 21, 2026
Denial of service in PowerDNS Authoritative Server 4.9.0 through 4.9.14 and 5.0.0 through 5.0.4 allows remote authenticated users to break AXFR. CatalogInfo::toDNSZoneRecords wraps a raw producer group in quotes when building its TXT record instead of escaping embedded quotes. The attacker must control catalog member metadata and trigger catalog-zone transfer; the consequence is transfer failure without system compromise.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=4.9.0 <4.9.15
- Affected versionversion=5.0.0 <5.0.5
