CVE-2026-42284Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Code execution via pre-split clone option validation

Published May 7, 2026 · Updated May 7, 2026

Argument injection in GitPython before 3.1.47 allows remote attackers to execute code through attacker-controlled clone options. The _clone() method checks each multi_options string before shlex.split separates embedded tokens, so a safe-prefix string can smuggle --config core.hooksPath into Git. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled multi_options to clone_from(), clone(), or Submodule.update(); the injected hook runs with that application's privileges.
