Prototype-chain gadgets in Axios before 0.31.1 and 1.0.0 through 1.15.0 allow remote attackers to tamper with responses and hijack requests. mergeConfig creates a plain object and later reads parseReviver, transport, and transformation properties without own-property checks, allowing polluted Object.prototype values to replace JSON parsing or HTTP transport behavior. Exploitation requires a separate prototype-pollution source in the same process; successful use exposes request credentials, headers, and bodies or silently changes parsed JSON.
