CVE-2026-41858Network attack vector

Administrator password recovery via clock-seeded PRNG

Published Jun 4, 2026 · Updated Jun 4, 2026

Weak randomness in Get-RandomPassword in Windows Utilities Release before 0.23.0 allows remote attackers to recover Administrator passwords. Get-RandomPassword derives the randomize_password job's credential from a clock-seeded pseudorandom generator, leaving a small candidate space when VM boot time is estimated. Network reachability to the account and an estimate of boot time are required; successful recovery defeats the account-locking hardening control.
