Authenticated host disk exhaustion via unbounded imports

Published May 7, 2026 · Updated May 7, 2026

Resource exhaustion in Linux Containers Incus before 7.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to exhaust host disk space via binary imports. Instance backup, storage bucket, storage volume, and ISO import handlers copy request bodies into host temporary files with io.Copy and no size or quota limit. Access to an affected import API is required; separate images and backups volumes reduce host-filesystem exposure, while exhaustion can interrupt host services.
