Stack corruption via unchecked digest output length
Published Apr 24, 2026 · Updated Apr 24, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in rust-openssl openssl 0.10.39 through 0.10.77 allows attackers to corrupt stack memory via safe Rust. MdCtxRef::digest_final passes the caller's slice directly to EVP_DigestFinal without verifying it can hold EVP_MD_CTX_size(ctx) bytes. Exploitation requires a consuming application to call this API with an undersized output slice; the overwrite usually corrupts the stack and can crash that process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
