Local code execution via oversized webview buffer
Published May 12, 2026 · Updated May 12, 2026
Code execution in Microsoft Visual Studio Code before 1.119.1 allows attackers to run code locally through a webview with untrusted content. WebviewProtocolProvider passes the backing ArrayBuffer instead of the correctly sized file-data view, allowing unintended bytes to enter root webview content. Exploitation requires user interaction to open an affected webview, after which untrusted script runs inside the webview and enables local code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
