Denial of service via unbounded zlib decompression
Published Jul 27, 2026 · Updated Jul 27, 2026
Data amplification in Apache Thrift Python bindings before 0.24.0 allows remote attackers to exhaust memory via compressed RPC frames. THeaderTransport passes an attacker-controlled zlib transform payload to zlib.decompress without limiting the expanded output. A reachable Python RPC endpoint that accepts header-transport compression is required, and resource exhaustion can interrupt the service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
