Arbitrary command execution via unsanitized release name
Published May 8, 2026 · Updated May 8, 2026
Command injection in electerm before 3.3.8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands during global npm installation on macOS. The runMac() function in npm/install.js concatenates remote releaseInfo.name into an exec("open ...") shell command without validation. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled release metadata to reach a macOS host while the global npm installation workflow runs, granting command execution as that local user.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
