Privilege escalation via unbound bootstrap setup codes

Published Apr 28, 2026 · Updated Apr 29, 2026

Privilege escalation in OpenClaw before 2026.3.22 allows remote attackers to obtain unintended roles and scopes during device pairing. The device-bootstrap verifier accepted a valid setup token without comparing the requested role and scopes with the profile for which the token was issued. Exploitation is limited to first-use pairing with an active bootstrap code and grants the paired device privileges beyond its intended node profile.
