Authenticated Lua execution via unescaped path rewrite
Published Apr 23, 2026 · Updated Apr 23, 2026
Code injection in Project Contour Contour allows remote authenticated users to execute Lua code in the shared Envoy proxy. Cookie rewriting interpolates HTTPProxy pathRewrite.value input into HTTP Lua filter source through Go text/template without sufficient sanitization. The attacker needs RBAC permission to create or modify HTTPProxy resources and traffic to that route; execution can read xDS credentials or interrupt other tenants.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 1.19.0, < 1.31.6
- Affected versionversion=>= 1.32.0, < 1.32.5
